Activities in the Season 2008 - 2009

Throughout the year, ADFAS undertakes various activities and outings other than the monthly lectures. Watch this space for information about activities during the current season. Below are activities from the previous season. Click the links on the left for information about other previous activities.

June Outing

Saturday 20th June 2009

The June Outing to the Abbey of Villers-la-Ville and to the Folon Foundation was cancelled as not enough people wanted to participate.

Exhibition visit: ‘Heads and Shoulders’

Saturday 15th November 2008

ADFAS members visited this exhibition in the Royal Museum of Fine Arts, Antwerp.

The exhibition highlighted portrait busts in the 17th and 18th centuries art in the Low Countries. Portrait sculpture is perhaps associated most readily with famous politicians, dignitaries, scientists and aristocrats. But they were by no means the only ones to be immortalised in marble. From the end of the 18th century, famous actresses were, for example, also commonly depicted.

The exhibition was organised by the Flemish Art Collection, a structural partnership between the Groeninge Museum in Bruges, the Museum of Fine Arts in Ghent and the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp. Pieces from all three museums were shown alongside sculptures from other Belgian and foreign collections.

A quiet moment at the saleArt Bring & Buy Sale
with Wine & Cheese Reception

Saturday 25th October

An excellent day was enjoyed by all at our first-ever Art Bring & Buy sale. People were invited to bring along the art pieces they no longer wanted and they were sold.

A donation of 20% of the sale price went to ADFAS.

The saleAt the end of the afternoon there was a wine and cheese reception which was open to all ADFAS members, ABIW, ABCA and their friends, not just those involved in the Art Bring & Buy Sale. There was a very convivial and friendly atmosphere.

We hope to repeat this some time in the future.
