Activities in the Season 2007 - 2008Outing to the Abbey at TongerloSaturday June 21st
We started the day with a guided tour of the Abbey. This was followed by a delicious lunch. Inthe afternoon we had a guided tour of the Da Vinci Museum which contains a copy of Leonardo Da Vinci’s Last Supper, painted in 1506 by Da Vinci’s pupil, Andrea del Solario, and it was purchased by the Abbey in 1545. For more information visit the Tongerlo Abbey web site.
Visit to the Plantin-Moretus MuseumSaturday May 17thThe Plantin-Moretus Museum possesses an exceptional collection of typographical material. Not only does it house the two oldest surviving printing presses in the world and complete sets of dies and matrices, it can also be proud of its magnificent library, a richly decorated interior and the entire archives of the Plantin business.
Cost: €10.00 Lunch: At the end of the tour, we go across the river to Linkeroever – by car, or for those who feel energetic enough, through the Pedestrian Tunnel underneath the River Scheldt. The tunnel, built in 1933, is 570 metres long and well worth a visit on its own, particularly for its original wooden escalators.
